クローイー・木蓮 (もくれん)

Something about Chloe’s last base design just felt really half-baked and unsatisfying in a way that the designs for the other WUBRG gang members didn’t, so I decided to give it another go and this design feels much better. Anything that’s not on the new ref sheet but on the old one is probably still applicable (such as her ear thingies probably). I will be working on OC designs based on each of MTG’s color combos eventually but I probably need to focus on writing fullish profiles for Lily, Viola, Blake, Adam, and Chloe as well as some short stories / comics or something. I might also need to make small edits to their existing refs (for example Lily has wider shoulders than is depicted in her original ref and Viola’s body is more boxy / straight these days).

Originally, Chloe had more of an animal theme because of Green’s relationship to creature cards and animals in MTG itself but I was afraid of potentially leaning too far into a “savage” or animalistic stereotype when Chloe is generally a pretty chill and calm person anyway. So I added more plant motifs and shapes to try to ensure that the animal motifs that were there are more on the side of cutesy as opposed to “aggressive,” “dirty,” “masculine,” “tough,” etc. More teddy bears from someone who clearly appreciates cute things as opposed to actual grizzly bears. Each of my OCs has a recurring way they wear their clothes: Lily tends to wear dresses or business outfits, Viola wears coats and hoodies, Blake wears baggier clothes, Adam wears stuff that exposes his midriff and short sleeves while Chloe wears clothing that hangs off her shoulders. Originally, I wanted Chloe to wear things with furs but I just couldn’t get it to feel right. This stuff also extends to color. Lily wears mostly White, yellow / gold, green, and blue. Viola wears primarily blue, white, and black. Blake wears mostly black, purple, blue, and red. Adam wears mostly red / pink, green, and black. Chloe wears mostly green, white, and red / pink, but she ended up having a lot more brown and naturalistic colors than I originally planned.
