Douglysium

1: A symbolic self portrait of me at a table drawing something. My mouth is replaced with a beak holding a pencil with a bee at its tip, and my eyes are large with sclera made pink from lack of sleep. I’m wearing glasses and the top of my head has a large crack revealing my brain amongst my receding hairline and black hair, a bit of blood drips out of said crack. Around my shoulders is the gray wool of a sheep, with my right shoulder having a tired looking sheep’s head. My red sleeved left arm is erasing something on the drawing while my blue sleeved right arm is steadying me against the table, with its palm flat against it. On my left arm is a squawking parrot. On the left portion of the table I’m drawing on is a laptop and balls of crumpled paper. The actual drawing has two ravens with a lantern above the two of them. At the bottom right corner of the paper is the roman numeral for 9 (IX). Under the table is a black poodle on my right and a yellow poodle on my left representing my two pet dogs. Between them is a glowing screen of some sort. Behind me are two open curtains, a red one to my right, and blue one to my left, revealing a window that looks like it’s made of 4 Ipads. From the viewer’s left and top to bottom there is: the capricorn constellation, a crescent moon, stars, and the symbol for capricorn.

Project 5: Watercolor and Gouache Practice

1: A torn piece of paper that is trisected into 3 “frames” by masking tape. The leftmost painting has a plant’s stem / branches against a blue background. The plant itself has leaves of some sort and is painted a combination of green and blue. Its center is more blue while its edges are more green. The center image depicts a yellow sun and blue clouds in a green sky. The rightmost image is that of grass and red butterflies with a blue sky.

1: A torn piece of paper that is trisected into 3 “frames” by masking tape. The leftmost piece is a simple watercolor painting of a glowing gem with an emerald. The gem is a shade of pink with its lines of its cut painted with green. The gem is giving off a pink glow and the background is green. The center image is a painting of a gem with a brilliant cut. The background is pink while the gem, and the sparkles around it, are green. The lines of the gem’s cut are done in pink. The right most image is two pink spheres hurdling in some direction. The background is orange and the two spheres have a green trail, similar to a comment, to imply their trajectory.

Project 2: “Violent Growth”

1: Ink in a linocut carving depicting a modern building being constructed around an older Greek inspired building that itself has an old mountain jutting through it. The structures all sit on an island and are all being eroded by wind and water. Cranes and structures depict the modern building constantly being built up and repaired as it is eroded by time. The sky has the clouds of a storm and streaks meant to resemble stars quickly moving through a night sky, as if you are watching footage being sped up.
