Douglysium

Another group of paintings with a wider assortment of topics. Here I was trying to practice adding more texture and stylization to the paintings.

1: A torn piece of paper that is trisected into 3 “frames” by masking tape. The leftmost painting is a blue gem with a diamond cut between two branches. Around it there is an area with no paint which, thanks to the white paper, gives the illusion of a glowing effect against the blue background within the picture. The center image depicts a cotton plant. While the stem and sky are depicted using green and blue paint respectively, the cotton of the plant is rendered using the white space of the paper (by leaving the area blank). The rightmost drawing is upside down but depicts a sun rising over a green landscape in a blue sky. The sun’s shape is implied by simply using the white of the paper to create a shape with no paint.

2: A torn piece of paper that is trisected into 3 “frames” by masking tape. The leftmost image depicts something akin to a grapefruit (with a yellow peel, orange pith, and red flesh) against a blue background. The center image is a brown-skinned forearm and hand with its palm facing upward. Three of its fingers are closed while the pointer finger is directed upward and the thumb outstretched. On the tip of the pointer finger is a small flame. The background is a shade of green. The rightmost image depicts a hand grabbing a glowing green pearl releasing waves of light from behind. The background is yellow and there is a bit of unpainted space around the peart to emphasize that it is glowing.
